Welcome to Minding My Own Therapy
Rooted in Mindfulness, Evolving with Intention
Minding My Own (MMO) Therapy is a counseling practice providing Telehealth services throughout California and Nevada, as well as in-person sessions in Ventura County.
Seeking therapy is a courageous first step. The fact that you’re here reflects something powerful — a willingness to invest in yourself and your healing.

I invite you to explore more about me and my approach to care. If it feels aligned, we can work together to cultivate a steady foundation — one where you feel grounded, supported, emotionally clear, and empowered to create a life that feels authentic and fulfilling.

About Me
My name is Taj-Zsa Hower, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the founder of Minding My Own Therapy. With over 11 years of clinical experience, I specialize in helping individuals and couples navigate anxiety, identity shifts, relational strain, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm with clarity, confidence, and intentional growth.

My work is rooted in trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches that integrate cognitive-behavioral strategies, mindfulness, relational therapy, and values-based interventions. I believe therapy should be both reflective and practical—offering insight into patterns while equipping clients with tools to create sustainable change in their daily lives.

My clinical journey began as a Youth Correctional Counselor, where I developed a strong foundation in supporting individuals navigating complex emotions in high-stress environments. I earned my Master of Social Work from California State University, Northridge in 2016 and have since provided therapy across foster care systems, community mental health clinics, university counseling centers, and veteran services. Work within higher education further expanded my experience supporting emerging adults and professionals managing identity development, career stress, and significant life transitions.

My approach to therapy is grounded, culturally responsive, and collaborative. I strive to create a space that honors each client’s lived experience while fostering emotional clarity, resilience, and meaningful growth.

Whether you are experiencing anxiety or depression, feeling stuck, or facing relational or life transitions, therapy provides structured support to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.

I look forward to the opportunity to support your continued growth.

Services
Adulting Therapy
Adulting” reflects the emotional and psychological adjustments that often accompany major transitions into adulthood, including navigating career paths, relationships, financial responsibilities, independence, and increased stress.
Entering adulthood does not mean having all the answers. This stage can bring new pressures, uncertainty, and heightened anxiety. Adulting Therapy offers a structured and supportive space to process these challenges, strengthen coping skills, and build confidence as you move through this phase of life. You don’t have to figure it out on your own.

Counseling for Anxiety & Depression
Anxiety and Depression services are designed for individuals experiencing persistent sadness, excessive worry, or emotional distress that is interfering with daily functioning, relationships, responsibilities, or self-care.
Treatment begins with creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment. Through thoughtful exploration and evidence-based interventions, therapy focuses on increasing insight, strengthening coping strategies, and helping you effectively manage symptoms and restore stability.
Couples Support Counseling
Couples Support Counseling focuses on building practical skills to reduce conflict, improve communication, and address recurring patterns in a constructive way. Through increased understanding, intentional dialogue, and collaborative problem-solving, couples learn how to navigate differences without escalating tension.
Therapy also supports partners in strengthening emotional connection, clarifying shared goals, and rebuilding trust and respect. The goal is to create a stable, supportive relationship that can effectively manage the everyday challenges of partnership.
Perinatal & Postpartum Support
Perinatal and Postpartum Support provides a compassionate space to navigate the emotional changes that can come with pregnancy and early motherhood. While this season can be meaningful, it can also feel overwhelming or isolating.
Therapy offers a safe, nonjudgmental environment to process mood changes, loss of identity, difficulty bonding, guilt, or challenges seeking support. Together, we focus on emotional balance, strengthening support systems, and helping you reconnect with yourself during this transition.
Intersectional & Identity Counseling
Intersectional & Identity Counseling services address and affirm the unique needs and experiences of individuals from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. The goal of these services are to provide culturally competent and sensitive care, acknowledging and respecting the influence of culture, race, and ethnicity on an individual's mental health and well-being. Services may include or involve identity exploration, intersectionality, historical and intergenerational trauma, colorism, racism, micro-aggressions, and struggles navigating the minority experiences within your community.

Mission & Training
"My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style."
MAYA ANGELOU
